The Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) course is a free, short video course run by the Texas DPS — completely separate from Happy Drivers Ed. It is the adult version of the Impact Texas Drivers program. We do not administer ITAD and cannot troubleshoot issues on the DPS site. Who needs ITAD?

ITAD is required before the DPS driving skills (road) test for adults 18–24 who take driver education and for applicants 25 and older — only the 6-hour driver education course becomes optional at 25+. For the full eligibility breakdown by age, see the Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) guide.

Is ITAD free?

Yes. ITAD is provided by the Texas DPS at no cost — there is no charge to watch the video or to get the certificate. It is a separate step from your paid driver education course.

When do I take ITAD?

Take ITAD after you finish our adult driver education course and before your DPS road test. The ITAD certificate is valid for 90 days: you must pass your DPS driving skills test within 90 days of the date on the certificate, or you need to restart ITAD.

ITAD and Your Course Certificate Are Different

Your Certificate of Completion from Happy Drivers Ed is separate from the DPS ITAD certificate. The ITAD certificate has the 90-day clock; you do not retake our course just because you need to restart ITAD.

How do I get my ITAD certificate?

ITAD is best taken on a desktop or laptop — phones and tablets may not be supported.

Go to impacttexasdrivers.dps.texas.gov
Create an account or log in and select the adult (ITAD) course
When you register, enter the two numbers the form asks for: C3476 as the TDLR Number (the Happy Drivers Ed provider number), and only the digits of your certificate number in the ADE/DE Control Number field (numbers only, no letters)
Use your exact legal name as it appears on your ID and your Certificate of Completion — a mismatch can cause problems at the driving test
Watch the full video course (it cannot be skipped or fast-forwarded)
Print or save the certificate that is provided when you finish

Entering your two numbers on the ITAD form

The ITAD registration form asks for two numbers. Enter C3476 as the TDLR Number — that is Happy Drivers Ed's school license number (the form notes it can be found on your ADE certificate). In the ADE/DE Control Number field, enter only the digits of your own certificate number — the form accepts numbers only, so drop the ADEE prefix. If a field still will not accept your entry, contact DPS ITAD support ([email protected]) or email us and we'll help.

How do I fix common ITAD problems?

Certificate expired: Retake ITAD for free at impacttexasdrivers.dps.texas.gov.
Lost certificate: Log back into the Impact Texas Drivers website to reprint it.
Technical issues: We cannot help with the DPS Impact Texas Drivers site — DPS runs it entirely. Contact DPS at [email protected].
