Course Overview

Our Online Texas Adult Drivers Ed course is a 6-hour, TDLR-approved course completed entirely online at your own pace. It's approved by the state (TDLR Provider #C3476) and designed for busy adults who don't have time for traditional classroom instruction.

The course covers everything you need to know to drive safely and pass the DPS test: Texas traffic laws, road signs, right-of-way rules, defensive driving, the effects of alcohol and drugs, handling emergencies, and sharing the road with other vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The course costs $39.95 (regularly $64.95) and includes 6 months of access. You don't have to finish in one sitting — take your time.

The 8 Lessons

The course will guide you through each step. The 6 hours of instruction are organized into 8 lessons completed in order. As you move through each lesson, you'll answer short verification questions that confirm you're engaged with the material — these are built into the lessons, not separate courses.

1. Complete the 8 lessons in the course at your own pace.
2. Pass the short verification checkpoints embedded in the lessons as you go.
3. Take the comprehensive final exam (see below).
4. Earn your Certificate of Completion.

Course Time and the Timer

Texas requires a minimum amount of time in the course before you can take the comprehensive final exam. The course includes a built-in timer that tracks your active time, and you'll need to spend the required time in the lessons before the exam unlocks.

• Active-time tracking — the timer counts the time you spend engaged with the lessons, in small increments.
• Stay active — if you step away, the course may prompt you to confirm you're still there, so only real engagement counts.
• Use a supported browser — for the best experience, use the Google Chrome browser.

The Comprehensive Final Exam

When you finish the course and pass the comprehensive final exam, your Certificate of Completion documents that you completed a TDLR-approved driver education course and passed the in-course written exam. Bring it to DPS so you do not retake the road-signs-and-traffic-laws written test at the office. You still take the vision test and the road test at DPS — those are not covered. After you complete the lessons and meet the course-time requirement, you take the comprehensive final exam to earn your Certificate of Completion.

• 70% to pass — this is the state passing threshold.
• Three attempts — you have three attempts to pass the exam.
• Reset on the third failure — if you do not pass on your third attempt, your course progress is reset and you start the course over.

For the lesson assessments (the checkpoints inside each lesson), there's no such limit — if you fail a lesson assessment, you can retake it as many times as you like.
