Every price below was read off that provider's own Texas adult drivers ed page in August 2026. Each one is the same product: the TDLR-approved six-hour adult driver education course that ends in an ADE-1317 Certificate of Completion. Rows are sorted by the all-in cost — what you actually pay to finish the course and get that certificate in hand.

What the fine print changes
- Sale price vs. regular price. DriversEd.com lists $69.95 regular, iDriveSafely $69, Virtual Drive of Texas $78, and Aceable $89. The day we checked, Aceable was also running a limited-time "Back to School" 10%-off promo that showed $44.10 in place of its $49 sale price — that promo ends August 11, 2026, so $49 is the durable sale price and $49 is what the table shows. Promos come and go; the sale price is the number worth comparing.
- Two pages disagreed with themselves. iDriveSafely's price block showed $29.00 while the same page's structured data listed $39.00. Its Texas hub page also quotes an $8.95 certificate fee — a $37.95 finish price — while its dedicated adult course page quotes $5.95; the $34.95 above uses that dedicated course page. TexasAdultDriver.com blurs its price in the page styling and loads it by script; its own product feed returns $36.00. If a price is hard to pin down before checkout, that is worth knowing.
- Certificate delivery can be its own upgrade. TexasAdultDriver.com advertises "No extra fees! Certificate included," and its FAQ then discloses an additional fee if you want to upgrade to instant digital certificate delivery.
- Not every cheap course on the page is this course. NHSA's Texas defensive driving course sits on the same page as its adult drivers ed course at $25.00 — a different product entirely (see below).
Every provider in the table advertises the same state-written course, and most print the TDLR license number you can check it against: NHSA is #C3042, DriversEd.com #C3244, iDriveSafely #C3249, Aceable #C2839, and Happy Drivers Ed is Provider #C3476. TexasAdultDriver.com and Virtual Drive of Texas do not publish an adult driver education license number on their sites, so we are not printing one for them — you can look any provider up in TDLR's license search before you pay. The curriculum and the certificate are set by the state, so what you are really shopping is price, fee structure, and how the course feels to work through.
Where does that leave us? Happy Drivers Ed is $39.95 with the certificate included — mid-pack on this list, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What you get for it is one number: no certificate fee, no handling fee, no rush-delivery upgrade, no coupon hunt, and no add-on step at checkout. The price on the page is the price you pay to finish.
One scoping note, because "all-in" gets used loosely: that column covers the course and your Certificate of Completion, and nothing else. Texas DPS charges its own fees for the license application and testing, and no course price on this list includes them — ours does not either. Those DPS costs are the same for you no matter which provider you pick.
Is the Texas adult drivers ed course free?
No — the six-hour course itself is not free. It is a paid, TDLR-approved course, and Happy Drivers Ed charges $39.95 for it. There is no legitimate way to get the required course for $0; if a site promises a "free" Texas adult driver education course, read carefully, because the certificate almost always costs money.
The genuinely free part is a separate DPS step. Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) is a free, roughly one-hour distracted-driving video from the Texas DPS. It is required before the DPS driving skills (road) test for adults 18–24 who take driver education and for applicants 25 and older. Complete ITAD after you finish your 6-hour adult course and before your road test, then bring the printed certificate to your appointment. Is adult drivers ed worth it?
If you are 18 through 24 and applying for your first Texas driver license, Texas requires you to complete an approved driver education course. The Happy Drivers Ed six-hour adult course is a qualifying course. So the real decision is not whether to take a course — it is which provider to pick. "Worth it" just means paying a fair, all-in price for something you have to do anyway.
There is also a concrete payoff at the DPS counter. When you pass the in-course written exam and finish the course, Texas DPS accepts your ADE-1317 Certificate of Completion in lieu of the written (knowledge) test — the highway-sign and traffic-law parts. That is DPS accepting your certificate, not something we waive.
A few honest details so you know exactly what you are getting: DPS accepts certificates dated less than two years before you apply (37 TAC §15.55(e)(2)). The certificate itself does not expire — it is that acceptance window that runs out, and the course requirement does not reset either way.
