Switching from Another Driver Education Provider

Yes, you can switch to Happy Drivers Ed if you started the Texas adult driver education course with another provider. Here is what you should know before you do.

Key Things to Understand

You complete our full six-hour course

We do not offer a shortened version. To earn a Certificate of Completion from us, you complete our entire state-approved six-hour adult course, including the comprehensive final exam — regardless of how much you finished with another provider.

Progress does not transfer between providers

Course hours and quiz progress are tracked per provider. Time you spent in another provider's course does not carry over to ours.

One certificate, issued by us

We can only issue a Certificate of Completion for students who complete our course. If another provider already issued you a certificate, you would use theirs at DPS — you do not need to retake the course with us.

Already Licensed in Another U.S. State?

Switching providers is different from transferring an out-of-state license. If you hold a valid driver license from another U.S. state, you may be exempt from the course entirely. See I have a license from another U.S. state.
