Enrollment Requirements

Enrolling in our Texas adult drivers ed course is simple. There is no application packet to order, no parent instructor to designate, and no behind-the-wheel component — this is a classroom-only online course you complete on your own.

Age

This course is the six-hour adult driver education course for first-time Texas license applicants. It is required for applicants ages 18–24and may be taken voluntarily by applicants 25 and older. It is not the teen/minor course and does not satisfy a minor's requirement. For full details on who must take it, see course eligibility.

What You Need to Enroll

  • A valid email address (this becomes your login)
  • Payment by credit or debit card
  • Your legal name exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID — this is printed on your Certificate of Completion and must match your ID at DPS
  • Your date of birth

Identity Verification

Because this is a state-approved online course, you will answer brief personal validation questions at points throughout the course to confirm your identity. Enter your information accurately when you sign up so these checks go smoothly.

Equipment

You can take the course on any modern computer, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection. See equipment requirements for details.

Already licensed in another U.S. state?
If you moved to Texas and hold a valid driver license from another U.S. state, you are exempt from the course requirement. See I have a license from another U.S. state.
